Chris Hughton has rejected the negative reports about personality of Hatem Ben Arfa and insists he will answer his critics with performances on the pitch.
The 23-year-old made his debut for Newcastle United's Premier League trip Saturday Everton, and its superb strike secured all three points for visitors.
But change from French to Tyneside was obscured in their country of origin after he refused to train with and play to his parent Club Marseille, a decision that Manager Laurent Blanc, France, felt was worthy to exclude the attacker from a call to the last round of qualifying for the Euro 2012.
"Of course I'm aware of the things that were said about it, but this is an excellent opportunity for the boy," Hughton told reporters.
"Right through this, he showed a great desire to come here. you have to make sure that you put them in an environment that is as healthy as possible and competitive as possible.
"You can only handle situations that may arise. I'm very, very aware of that, but he is a boy who has been very popular since the first couple of days he walked by. Certainly, I would not anticipate any problems."
Ben Arfa made his debut against Blackpool and showed promise immediate with its mixture of pace and attacking guile and Hughton believes its latest acquisition has the ability to replicate these performances on a regular basis.
"As with all talented players, is how you use them in team and work ethic are and what they can produce on the football field [it]," said Hughton.
"But the only thing that doesn't change-the most important thing is always going to be the team.
"Is a talented Ben Arfa or perhaps a player who plays in a little more than a different role, makes no difference, what they have to do is work hard for the football team.
"We have been absolutely delighted with it so far."
Newcastle host Stoke City on Sunday and Hughton has praise for his counterpart Tony Pulis.
"He [Pulis] is a Manager for whom I have the utmost respect. If I look at what Stoke have achieved in recent years, is certainly the Tony and what he brought to the Club.
"He has done an absolutely magnificent. But he is the one who has worked in it, he is not the one that came during the night.
"He has worked with the divisions and has great experience and a wealth of knowledge when it comes to football."
