Providence College Football men's senior Matt Marcin (Wilmington,.) was invited to the adidas 2011 of major League Soccer (MLS) Player combine on January 7-11 in Central Park of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Marcin is among the 54 college seniors 36 NCAA Division I schools who will participate in the annual event. The annual combine is a prelude to the MLS SuperDraft that will be held on the 13th of January, in Baltimore, MD.

In 2010, Marcin finished as top scorer of the team with senior career goals (10), assists (4) and points (24). All 10 goals were more for a friar since 1991. In addition, four 10 goals of Marcin were the winners of the game. He was nominated for the NSCAA All-Northeast Region First Team, the All-BIG EAST First Team and won honors BIG EAST All-tournament Team. Their goals are connected 22 career for fifth record in Providence, while 53 points ranking seventh.

Marcin took the friars to one of its most successful seasons in the history of the program. Providence ended with a 13-6-3 overall record, a victory shy of tying a school record for most victories. The friars also went to the BIG EAST Championship final where tied Louisville No.1, 1-1 in double overtime, but fell into a shootout kick. Providence then won a vacancy in great NCAA tournament and hosted its first NCAA Championship game ever. The friars defeated Saint Peter, 6-2, on November 18 to advance to the second round for the second time. On your way to the NCAAs, the friars had a streak Invicta game of 10 (8-0-2), including seven consecutive victories.
